Update: (-) Deleted Industrial Dance to Steampunk, (+) Replaced Monumental Dance with Industrial
9/22/2010, 2:21 PM
Due to my ignorance I didnt know exactly what monumental dance was when talking to my friend. Apparently it is another name for Industrial Dance according to E-Nomine. The style was not different enough to spread it self apart from industrial.
Those in the steampunk community are not all in agreement of what exactly is steampunk. As I was talking with many who have come from the gothic scene many think that steampunk is exactly the same as gothic but different in its appearance. When I have talked to some of the modders and people who were called hard core into steam punk they talked more about the Industrial Revolution and the emphasis on Engineering and Energy sources which points towards scientists. That sounded like the steampunk I was reading in the fictional novels and the general idea for the move away from Gothic. If steampunk was ment ot be completely goth except a style it would not have separated itself and tried to further differentiate itself from the idea of goth where it got a revival not a start.
Since I got a better idea of the matter i put industrial dance back in goth where it belonged and had to brain storm and research indormation of what I could collect of the industrial revolution to see what possible dances could be added to the streat, couple, and performance dance.
Update: (=) Re-Organized Rinascimento Dance

I first looked at traditional dances and many of them were tribal, performance, stage dances. When I was looking at 1960s dance fads they were just that, fads. When I studied Jazz I noticed it was mostly couples dances. Then i went to disco which showed a dance to wow the crowd and formally fight on the dance floor. I then studied hip hop which took this to the streets. So what does that mean for dance? its separated as Performance Dance, Couples Dance, and Street Dance.
Dance has come along way, and this means each urban culture can have up to three types of known or identified dance styles. I wrote about a possible style of Masiquen as a street dance, later on i shall create a more specific idea of what it is. Masiquen needs to be lose and not so tight all the time, it will also have elements of other street dance such as arm movements, leg movements, acrobatics, etc. A few styles during the time period I have been looking at were different couples dances and ballet. Contemperary Ballet is the celebrated form of performance dance which originated in the italian renaissance of the 15th century, Moon Waltz is the celebrated form of couples dance which is a seemingly gravity defying couples dance.
Update: (=) Updated Otaku Profile: Added Sports

Since many say the direction im pointing otaku in are quite different I named it the Paleo-Otaku movement, since I am updating Otaku to the standards of other respected urban cultures which existed in the past and current. Apart of this is to show the interests of sports. The sports was a no brainer because many Wotaku and Japanese Otaku take an interest in martial arts because of their fighting games. Fighting games are a interest which is shared with people interested Akibakei. While being apart of several japanese and international clubs I noticed people who got into anime got in with the interest of Kyudo or Kendo. It just seemed natural for me to add it in since it also was in many manga such as Kare Kano.
Update: (=) Updated Otaku Profile: Added Movements and Dance

Separating what I know as western otaku from japanese otaku was difficult, so I read more into peoples blogs, message boards, and asked a couple of friends from japan and north america. I had come to hear the japanese labeled it sometimes as Wotaku. This gave me the idea to separate the movements as Gastro, Wotaku, and Paleo.Gastro is to represent the obsession of social obligation negation. The Wotaku is for the culture which evolved in western culture. Paleo is a guideline for what Otaku will be if it has an organized social direction.
Dance was based off of the interesting dance style spread around the net that people called Nami Tamaki Dance. Eventually people in the islands started to experiment with anime dances included in the style so i just called it Super Sentai since much of nami tamakis dance style looks like hero poses. Many otaku who like hero shows tend to like super sentai heros. The Shami dance was inspired from a girl in one of my japanese classes who was a huge otaku who was following wotaku. She mixed japanese idol dances with traditional moves with a fan from geisha dances. I always remembered it, but never knew it was called. I studied where the traditional dances came from and learned it came from the Shamisen songs, thus naming it the Shami Dance. I couldnt find a couples dance, however it looks like it maybe something western, since many western influences had hit japan.
Update: (-) Stomping from Gothic, (+) Added Industrial Dance to Steampunk
9/18/2010, 2:21 PM
Stomping has been found to be better known as Industrial Dance. Industrial Dance has been placed in Steampunk since its focus is much more based on the industrial revolution time period than Gothic.
Fashion sections for Goth and Steampunk will be looked at closely in the future for its similarities and differences. The similarities is that they both are celebrating a similar era which is Victorian. The difference in style is that Steampunk is based more with themes of an industrial revolution while Gothic is based more on a mix of Rock and Historic periods most famously victorian without a speculative fiction flair.
Update: (=) Updated Rinascimento Profile, (+) Added Gothic Profile
9/18/2010, 9:35 AM
Rinascimento Profile has been updated with a number of edits, changes, and additions. Archery has been replaced with cook off. The reason was to move archery to Tellus since the culture concentrates more on archers than rinascimento. Summaries of cuisine and sports have been added to the rinascimento profile and much editting to the original typing.
The Gothic Profile has been created to help see the differences between Rinascimento, Tellus, and Gothic. A decision of the the five pillars of gothic have been chosen. Hairdressing from Sweeney Todd. Poetry which was always big with those who were in goth for its interest in Romantism, Victorian, and Poetry itself. Stomping may be renamed later from a poll of optional names or if a more official name for industrial dancing has been found. Wicca, because I have had alot of experience with meeting people who were interested in wicca along with many other interests in goth. Scherenschnitte is a popular german art technique for cutting paper, however depending on research of other interets it maybe due to change.
The Gothic fashion section points towards victorian as its fashion since many other fashions are now concentrated on by different urban cultures. Punk and Post-Punk have found their homes back at their original urban cultures, cyber is slowly making its way into its own urban culture. Steampunk has become its own urban culture. Medieval has been glorrified by Rinascimento. This leaves (deathrock, glamrock, vampie, pagan, victorian, renaissance, elizabethan). It is under discussion that a section maybe added called neo-victorian which will be a name for a look of a hybrid fashion of using victorian as a primary influence supported by vampire, glamrock, and pagan.
Rinascimento: (=) Updated Mesmer, Alchemist, Card User, and (X) Removed Magician,(+) Added Baristist
9/16/2010, 1:16 PM
The specialization section on the urban culture section Rinascimento has information added to it in the Mesmer, Alchemist, Card User sections as well as an added Baristist section. The magician section has been removed. The main reason in being that most illusionary magic and traditional ideas of medieval do not all 100% translate to Rinascimento. Much of Rinascimentos inspiration comes historically from the knights, kings, and monks. The idea of magicians is specifically to cards, so it was marked as a decision that the inspiration from the magician community has been added rather then a specialty for it.

Reorganization of Rinascimento, Otaku, Akibakei, and Shibuyakei
9/11/10, 4:32pm
The urban culture sections on the Eclipse Knights website are getting reorganized with new links, sources, and added content for more specific answers to questions which have been sent in. The content on the site will be easier to navigate with less sections, but much longer scroll down per page.
So far the biggest news is the work going on in the Rinascimento section. Many new things have been added to the redefined ideas of the cuisine section. We have been doing studies on the organization of existing cuisine to organize the ideas, names, and recipes of Rinascimento cuisine.
While you won't find every possible piece of info yet we are still working on the site as hard as we can to pump out more content for a more complete idea of existing and potential urban culture development.
