Akibakei music is a musical genre that was coined as a part of Akibakei culture. Akibakei has elements of subgenres within alternative such as Geek Rock, Indie Rock, Post-Grunge Rock, Punk, and sometimes Nu Metal.

Geek Rock which are sometimes seen in the appearance or lyrics which may contain words, references, and or subjects of geek popular culture such as science fiction, anime, fantasy, comic books, and/or video games. Indie includes jangling guitars and sometimes topics which maybe from a naive point of view. Post-Grunge effects the songs Dynamics and Guitar Heavy Distortion. Akibakei music is sometimes associated with Nu Metal for certain popular artists such as Back-On and Linkin Park. Ultimately Akibakei is a type of Alternative music which has any combination of such elements. Most people associate Akibakei music with 1990's american alternative rock, since many of the styles cover social concerns of drug use, depression, and environmentalism.

The groups Asian Kung Fu Generation and Back-On were referred by some people in Japan as akibakei music for its association with Alternative music and Anime songs.

The main difference with Akibakei music is that it expresses fast-paced tempos which are prominent in the song, hard-edged guitar riffs which have a rhythic flow, along with cynical yet emotional lyrics.

 

Origins

Creation of the term Akibakei Music is unknown of who the first particular source was who coined it. It is assumed that it was American Geeks who were following the Geek movements in America and Japan.

In mid 2000's Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Back-On were decribed by people as western alternative, akibakei music, anime music, and/or hard rock. The biggest amounts of fans rounded up by those who were anime otaku from the shows Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Eye Shield 21, Air Gear, and Bleach.

The roots of Akibakei music and Akibakei itself are found in the Information Age often called the Computer Age. Geeks across the Pacific ocean grew up with the american alternative music scene which started in the 1980's and peeked in the 1990's. Geeks in america at the time were listening to different forms of alternative styles such as post-grunge, geek rock, and rap rock.

Alternative addressed topics of social concern, drug use, depression, and environmentalism.

Popular groups at the time were Weezer, Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse, Semi Sonic, Vertical Horizon, and Foo Fighters. They were considered by some to be the pioneers of Akibakei music.

The post-grunge genre in America was a solo artists and groups who sang under the larger genre of Alternative music which was popular during the 1990's. The singing style during the post-grunge of the 1990's which was popular during the Information age of the internet was similar in style to the Japanese Alternative, Indie, Power Pop of Akibakei music, which ultimately was a Japanese work of Asian Kung Fu Generations Japanese Alternative style.
