Biscuit Sticks were always a popular snacking item in Japan, however to the rest of the world it was not so famous.

When Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins came out they were a hit. They popularized the snacks Pocky and Pretz since many of the main characters especially Mizuho Kazami in Onegai Teacher can always be seen with a pocky in her mouth. Anime Otaku communities around the world were interested in this Japanese snack. People tried either Pocky or Pretz and they picked a favorite.
