J.R.R Tolkien
English writer J.R.R. Tolkien has been called the "The Father of Fantasy" for his famous novels The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. He popularized the idea of Knights, Wizards, and Archers; which were long forgotten during his time. He wrote many of his novels around the time of World War I, Tolkien referred to some of his experiences.
Gary Gygax
During the 1970's, Gary Gygax had popularized the Role Playing Game genre with the designs of Dungeons & Dragons. Many titles which combine ideas similar to Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons are those of Ultima, EverQuest, Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, Guild Wars, and many other tiles which involve a Fantasy Medieval setting. It used a system of dice rolling to determine role playing outcomes. Paper and Pencil Role Playing gave people a sense of what it was like to live through a world filled with fictional fantasy.

J.K. Rowling
British author J.K. Rowling was responsible for re-vitalizing an interest in Wizards during the late 1990's to late 2000's. This was all due to the commercial success of her Fantasy Novel series Harry Potter.
