Lord of the Rings Success
The success of The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R Tolkien had lead popular culture to see the genre of Fantasy to be mostly a Medievalist form of writing. Lord od the Rings had also paved the way for many future writers who would have their hand at writing fantasy fiction. The range of what fantasy is can be based on Myth, Legend, History, and the Study of many ways of living, beliefs, and understanding of the time periods in the written times.
The Gamer Dark Ages
During 1970's the world of games changed with the arrival of Dungeons & Dragons. It popularized Role Playing Games also known as "RPGs". People would spend hours in doors rolling for the actions of their self created characters. It marked as a gateway game into other Indoor Games such as Board Games.
In the 1980's Games Workshop had been expanding in the world of Miniature Wargames.This required players to better their problem solving due to the situation their Armies were in. Many who were interested in the genre of Strategy games had started to give Wargames a try.
The Dungeons & Dragons controversies with Patricia Pulling challenged the Fantasy Genre as a whole during the 1980's when she filed a lawsuit against her sons principle Robert A. Bracey III for being responsible of her sons suicide.. Patricia Pulling had claimed that the game had negative psychological impacts of almost every level... for example a few were devil worshipping, desecration of christianity, prostitution, and sexual perversion. Patricia Pulling created a group called Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons (BADD). Patricia Pulling lost in court.
Ever since 1980's Dungeons & Dragons as well as the Fantasy genre has been filled with rumors and negative connotations.
The Gamer Crusades
Final Fantasy was responsible for popularizing the RPG genre for Video Games. The Final Fantasy series helped define the genre by including Puzzles, Random Encounters, and a Experience Level System. Many people who were into playing Video Games had started to gain a interest in reading because of the text you had to read throughout the game. This had led many Video Game players into the world of Fantasy Novels.
In the 1990's Richard Garfield created a game called Magic The Gathering which used cards you collected, created a deck to fight with, and then seeked out other players to fight. The game was released by Wizards of the Coast.
Square Softs Arrival
Square Soft had been making many series based on the Fantasy Genre. Some of these titles are Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4, Secret of Mana, and Saga Frontier.
The Paleo-Rinascimento Era
During 2002
Fighting games were helping alongside RPGs to help people classify the genre of Fantasy. Notably the Soul Edge, a fight amongst people during the medieval time period among all walks of human life fighting for the mythical blade.
