Steam Punk

 

The culture of Steampunk was a urban culture which developed in the 1980s from a multitude of communities. Influences come from fossil fuels, victorian, edwardian, science fiction, speculative fiction, and alternate history. Steampunk started out in the gothic, cybergothic, punk, mod, gamer, and geek communities. 

Steampunk contemporary culture which combines influences from early modern europe history, germany, france, united kingdoms, and united states.

The Five Pillars of Steampunk are: Welding, Homeretaining, Radio Control Machines, s, and Tesling.

Etymology


The word Steampunk originated in the late 1980's as a variant of the named cyberpunk. The term was coined by science fiction author K.W.Jeter when he was trying to describe several types of books.

 

The Movement

 

Paleo Steampunk (1980-Present)

Paleo Steampunk movement gained it's popularity in Gothic subculture. The name was derived from cyberpunk. Eventually in the 1990s steampunk started to call itself its own established urban culture, however at the time it was based on many of the styles of gothic merged with steampunk. This created hybrids of goth-steampunk rather than a unique look, feel, and sound. Many of those who fueled the developement of steampunk were the goths, punks, geeks, gamers, and industrial music fans.
